The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)

Operation Frankenstein

This Hammer Films’ classic had been the most profitable film produced in Britain by a British studio for many years and allowed the production studio to grow into the grindhouse that created what some consider to be the archetypical versions of popular movie monsters. In their take on Frankenstein, the plot follows a similar path: Dr. Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) is a brilliant scientist willing to stop at nothing in his quest to reanimate a deceased body. After alienating his longtime friend and partner, Paul Krempe (Robert Urquhart), with his extreme methods, Dr. Frankenstein assembles a hideous creature (Christopher Lee) out of dead body parts and succeeds in bringing it to life. But the monster is not as obedient or docile as the doctor expected and it runs amok—resulting in murder and mayhem.
