Overview
Beatriz at Dinner (2017) Saint Mary's Film Forum
Panel discussion to follow.
As the inaugural film in the Saint Mary’s Film Forum, this narrative examination of privilege ushers in a new series of films presented by Saint Mary’s that offers both unique films and post-film discussions. Here, Beatriz (Salma Hayek) is a Los Angeles massage therapist and holistic healer who drives to the seaside mansion of her client Cathy (Connie Britton). When her old Volkswagen breaks down, she receives a friendly invitation from Cathy to stay for a seemingly innocent business dinner. As the guests arrive and the wine starts to flow, Beatriz finds herself in an escalating war of words with Doug Strutt (John Lithgow), a ruthless real estate mogul who cares more about money than people.
