Learning Beyond the Classics: Class of 1999

Package Summary

Description

The ends of decades are often interesting years for Hollywood films. Supercharged by not only the end of the 1990s but the end of the millennium, 1999 was certainly no exception. Hallmarked by technological and narrative innovation, the films of 1999 added fervid variety to a closing time capsule while addressing suburban mundanity, commercialism, and toxic masculinity.

By considering whether and how these films succeeded in emancipating future filmmakers and audiences, we today can gain perspective on lingering blindspots and freshen some now-aged conventions while forecasting the 2020s.
