I Saw the TV Glow (2024)
Because Gender
Directed by Jane Schoenbrun
With Justice Smith, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Ian Foreman
Rated PG-13, 100 minutes, DCP
Panel scheduled after the 6:30pm screening!

Understanding the potential blowback a broad claim like this one could have, it still is worth making: I Saw the TV Glow should be required viewing for any Buffy fan. While not about Buffy, exactly, this film understands and portrays deftly late-90s fandom of CW, UPN, syndicated, and various other antenna television shows that still managed to feel like a back alley. Here, teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show (The Pink Opaque), which is a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.
