As two detectives (Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards) and reporters (Jake Gyllenhall, Robert Downey Jr.) remain steadfast in their devotion to bringing the elusive killer to justice, they soon find that the serial killer has control not only over their careers, but their very lives as well, in no small part to repeated and cryptic ciphers and menacing phone calls.
