Lakecia Benjamin
Native New Yorker Lakecia Benjamin is a searing saxophonist and bandleader, recognized as the Rising Star Alto Saxophonist in the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll and the Up and Coming Artist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. Electrifying performances and albums like 2023’s Phoenix blend jazz's traditional essence with vital funk and soul. Throughout an impressive career, Benjamin has shared the spotlight with iconic artists like Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, and The Roots and collaborated with jazz heroes like Clark Terry and Reggie Workman.

Her remarkable talent has led tour dates with Rashied Ali, Christian McBride, Gregory Porter, and James "Blood" Ulmer. Additionally, Benjamin's expertise as an arranger and horn section leader has been sought after by acclaimed artists such as Anita Baker. This is why Benjamin’s quintet was selected to debut in DPAC and act as clinicians for the 2025 Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival.
