Robin Hood (1973)

Sunday Family Films

Alan-a-Dale, a balladeering chanticleer, narrates this retelling of Robin Hood with jaunty songs (the opening of which was later remixed into the "Hampster Dance" craze of 1997) in this early-1970s Disney cartoon. One day, Robin Hood and Little John were walking through the forest and laughing back and forth at what the other one had to say. Amid their reminiscing and this-and-thatting, they come into contact with the caravan of the evil Prince John, continuing a series of thefts from the rich delivered to the poor. As retribution, Prince John, believed by some to be the phony King of England, exacts his revenge via unreasonable taxes on the citizens of Sherwood Forest, causing the citizens to rise up under Robin Hood’s leadership against the unjust crown.
