Bringing Up Baby (1938)

RKO Classics

Originally not a breakout hit for RKO Pictures, Howard Hawks’ madcap comedy has aged incredibly well and is often cited as his best work (e.g., it ranks 88th on the American Film Institute’s "100 Greatest American Films of All Time" list). Cary Grant stars as a paleontologist trying to complete a full brontosaurus skeleton for his museum. That stress combined with an impending marriage to the wrong woman and a potential million-dollar donation have him completely harried. Falling in love with the potential donor’s niece (Katharine Hepburn) the day before his wedding and having a leopard named Baby to look after tips the scales and ups the number of pratfalls and general zaniness.
