Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

Classics at the Browning

The future of civilization rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries and could be used to rule all of Middle-earth. Powerful (and often malevolent) forces are unrelenting in their search for it. Fate, though, has placed the ring in the tiny yet capable hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the ring and steps into legend. Upon becoming the Ringbearer, Frodo picks up a posse and embarks on a daunting task: to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged.

Sponsored by the Medieval Institute and the Meg and John P. Brogan Endowment for Classic Cinema.
